Places to Visit

Knucklas is quiet village nestling at the foot of Castle Hill, just a few miles down the beautifully Teme Valley from Knighton. This is border country with ‘Offa's Dyke’ and ‘Glyndwr's Way’ long distance footpaths as well as ‘National Cycle Route 25’ on the doorstep. This is also Red Kite country where wildlife abounds in the hedgerows, fields and coppices of the surrounding countryside. There are numerous places of interest to visit locally and plenty of activities to enjoy including: walking, cycling, golf, car rallying, tennis, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, fishing and bird watching.

Knighton with its sloping winding streets and half timbered houses is an attractive and interesting border town that is steeped in history. 700 years ago, it was the scene of one of Owain Glyndwr’s most famous victories against English invaders. Today tourists from all over the world find it one of the most peaceful places to visit and stay, whether you are striding the length of Offa’s Dyke or exploring the beautiful and fascinating Teme Valley in a more leisurely fashion.

Offa’s Dyke footpath winds for miles along the famous earthwork marking the boundary between England and Wales. Stretching from the Severn Estuary to the North West coast, this marvel of primitive engineering runs through Knighton, the only town on its entire length. A visit to the Offa’s Dyke Centre in Knighton is a must to learn more of the history of this ancient border town and its surrounding area.
